Richmond is the fourth largest city in British Columbia. It is part of Metro Vancouver, its neighbouring communities are Vancouver and Burnaby to the north, New Westminster to the east and Delta to the south. The Strait of Georgia forms its western border.

The city is located at the mouth of the Fraser River and comprises most of the islands in the Fraser River delta: Gilmore/Whitworth, Gunn, Iona, Kirkland, Lion, Lulu, Mitchell/Twigg/Eburne, Richmond, Rose, Sea, Shady, Swishwash, Williamson, and Woodward. Lulu is the largest island and Sea Island, is home to the Vancouver International Airport.

Almost 40 % of Richmond is in land agricultural reserve. Popular crops include cranberries, blueberries, strawberries, corn, and potatoes.

Richmond BC is home to the fishing village of Steveston and will host the long track speed skating competition during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
